OUR MISSION
CHANGING MINDSETS.
8 hours. 480 minutes. What would you do with that time? For the average teenager, the answer is: using their phone. This behaviour is so common among students that it has been labelled an addiction. This mindset infects millions of students across the US, and it takes away so much of students’ lives, including their sleep, relationships, and in particular, their educations. Seven Star Tutors was created not just to teach, but to foster a new perspective on learning for our students. We create an environment for students to start early and create positive habits. Above all, we emphasize a personal connection with each student and ensure that every minute spent with us is a minute spent productively.
OUR BRAND VALUES
building a strong start
Seven Star Tutors, LLC (7ST) was founded on the basis of affordable yet quality education for K-8 students. The founders of Seven Star Tutors noticed that many young students were falling behind in school, or were not where they wanted to be academically. As a result, they would fall farther and farther behind, or would never catch up to their goals, which would demotivate them. 7ST exists to combat this problem by teaching concepts from a foundational level, only moving forward when students fully grasp the idea. This model of teaching allows us to not only ensure mastery of the basics, but to allow students to comfortably learn even advanced concepts.
affordability
Affordability is our hallmark. After realizing that famous summer programs were too expensive, and that free programs often relied heavily onĀ sacrificing the attention provided to each student, the Seven Star TutorsĀ took it upon themselves to strike a balance between top-notch learning and affordable prices, emphasizing a personal and intimate connection with each and every student. We aim to keep every student engaged, as well as to provide a foundational understanding of concepts so that students can learn more effectively, even outside of our classrooms.
ELITE education
Seven Star Tutors emphasizes providing top-notch tutoring, regardless of price. Centered in New Jersey, a hub of elite education, the founders saw a striking lack of quality resources for K-8 students. So, we decided to fill that gap. Our tutors are all highly qualified, with years of field experience in their respective subjects, and their expertise is made available to K-8 students through our programs. We believe that younger students should not be held back by their age, and that instead of underestimating young students, they should be approached with the same quality of teaching as older ones. That’s why 7ST aims to bring our students ahead of the game, providing K-8 students with high school-level educations and beyond.
OUR TEACHING STYLE
INTRODUCING: OUR PROPRIETARY MATH CURRICULUMS
Seven Star Tutors utilizes two proprietary curriculums for its mathematics programs and courses. One is an Olympiad-style competitive curriculum, while the other is a foundational, school-based curriculum. Let’s explore the differences!
OLYMPIAD
Our Olympiad Curriculum focuses on developing a student’s ability to approach problems. That means understanding how to create a goal, identify the important points in a question, and use the provided information to find the answer, all while encouraging a holistic and flexible mindset to ensure that they can tackle any problems headed their way.
FOUNDATIONAL
Our Foundational Curriculum focuses on developing a student’s core understanding of mathematics. That means starting with introducing them to the universe of numbers, learning the rules under which they interact, and then building more advanced concepts from the ground up. It involves understanding different styles of math, ranging from algebra to geometry to even discrete levels of math.
OUR APPROACH TO STUDENTS
Every course, program, or session with Seven Star Tutors operates under four core principles, which we call the STAR Principles.
The Student-Centering Principle means that the student always comes first. We always look to each student equally and with care. We recognize that everyone learns differently, which is why we approach each student differently and ensure that our programs have a maximum teacher-to-student ratio of 1:8, so that each student is sure to get attention.
The Transparency Principle means that we are always open to communication with parents. We believe that parents should have an unbiased, honest understanding of their child’s education, and that having access to that information should be free and complementary. That’s why with every service that Seven Star Tutors provides, all parents may directly contact tutors or directors here, whether by phone or through email, and meetings can easily be set up. We also provide learning reports on students at the parents’ requests, so that students can continue learning even outside our classrooms.
The Application Principle means that our lessons aren’t just lectures: they involve interactive activities and guided problem-solving (with individual attention, of course) to ensure an understanding of the topic. This means doing problems in all forms and varieties to ensure that even exceptions to the rule are understood. We proudly present problems that are not easy, but are not too difficult to discourage students; if a student doesn’t understand a concept, our highly experienced tutors will utilize examples and analogies to make things digestible. No student will feel left behind at Seven Star Tutors– instead, they are sure to leave each class having learned something new.
The Review Principle means that after getting to know each student, communicating with parents, and thoroughly working through each concept, the Seven Star Tutors learning process ensures that students remember content. We don’t just do this through practice problems or drills: instead, as concepts in our curriculums always build on previous concepts, we utilize newly learned information immediately to solidify a student’s understanding of it, and to provide practical applications of it. However, every lesson provides unique information, so that if a student struggles with one concept, it will not hurt their understanding of another!
